Did you go to acer website and download the latest available driver for that model..
OR
Try the latest mobility modder and catalyst set?

i would highly suggest perhaps sending the entire laptop back to the manufacturer.... or where you had purchased it..
there is ZERO reason you shouldn't have a restore disk of some sort..... Every acer laptop i've received with vista installed has had the orginal vista discs and a restore disc..
Usually you have the option at bootable to hit F2 to load restore from hardrive....
you didn't buy it second hand did you?

Seriously, if it's causing that much grief.. it's quite likely it's a dud..... not worth trying to resolve as the chances of failure down the road increase... to the point of enevitably running out of the warranty period and then crashing to the point of no return..
Just wipe the drive and send it back to acer.... tell em to completely fix the sucker or replace it completely .... trust me.... the short time you'll be without a laptop.... is alot better then the long time you'll be without one PLUS losing all of your data possibly as well.

Sounds like a driver issue to me. The error you are getting is because its a laptop and windows can't find a driver for it.
Does the system boot into safe mode? If it does, try uninstalling your device drivers and see what you get. Boot up and reinstall your chipset and graphics drivers.
Have you tried the DH mobility modder with the official cats from ATI. If not, try them
If you don't have a restore disk, I'd call Acer and have them send you one. They will most likely gripe, but stick to your guns, ask for the guy in charge, and you will be fine.
