Hey folks,
Well, my uncle has gotten a laptop, a Dell Latitude C640 and asked me to get him a CD/RW for it.
I got one, we just slotted it in and turned on the computer. It runs Windows 2000 NT and has alot of administrative restrictions due to it being from his work (they gave him it when they upgraded).
Sooo...basically it seems to only recognise it as a CD-ROM, it plays music cds but when I put in a blank cd it won't let me open it at all, and we can't installed some software because of the restrictions.
What I'm wonder is:
A) Would it recognise it properly if we wiped the hard drive and installed a fresh copy of XP?
B) Would it recognise it properly if it wasn't for the administrative restrictions?
C) Would I be able to go into setup and make it recognise it there - with this one, when I first turned it on it said there was an invalid configuration, so we went into setup and I couldnt' work out how to use it properly, so we came out, but I noticed it had recognised the modular drive as having a CD-ROM. It loaded up fine and whenever we've rebooted since its not brought up the error message. However, now I want to go back in and see if I can make it say CD-RW instead of CD-Rom, or if it saying CD-ROM is just a generic thing in this instance.
So basically I'm just wondering if anyone on here has had similar experiences or has any advice. I bought the drive from ebay and the guy has sold several of these drives, and received positive feedback for all of them so I don't think its a con, but the drive itself is blank, and has no model number etc so I can't check it for myself properly.
As always - thanks in advance!
Alex
