window xp audio driver for compaq c501nr laptop

Hi guys,
I replaced windows vista os with win xp on my compaq presario c501nr and since then i have not been able to get a sound driver for the audio device. I guess i need a high definition audio driver but the hp website does not seem to have the right drive for this device.

Can someone help, please.

Thanks

Hi there and Welcome to DH!
First make sure that all windows updates are installed for your laptop. And then download the driver here and install it.

hello thanks for your quick response and help. I am still not able to get the sound device to work after making sure window is well up to date and installing the driver downloaded from the link you gave me.

Any idea why this is still happening? it was easy installing the audio driver from vista but the one for vista will just not work for xp.

I appreciate ur help.

thanx.

the device manager says nothing about the audio driver problem, it simply installed "adio codec legacy video capture, media control device and video coded" but there was an exclamation mark on the "microsoft uaa bus driver for high definiton audio" that i installed using a realtek driver.

the 2 devices with question marks are "sm bus controller" and one it marked as "unknown"

so you don't have all the chipset drivers installed... since it's Intel system get the newest drivers for chipset from Intel. That Microsoft uaa driver might be the problem why the drivers won't install correctly. Uninstall it and try to install the drivers.
