sound skipping in vista home premium

Hey I'm trying to work through an issue I'm having while playing Command and Conquer 3 on Vista premium on my Toshiba Satellite P105-6227
I have a core duo processor, geforce go 7600 gpu, 2GB RAM.

What seems to be happening is that on mid to high graphic settings, the sound skips, causing the game to lag. I'm getting a crackling noise here and there. Disabling all the music and sound effects seems to completely fix the problem and prevent the game from lagging. However, I would like to have sound.

I have the same issue with other games but I'm using this one as my guinea pig. I have tried installing the latest sound card/video card drivers but to no avail.

HAs anyone had this problem or does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

System Specs

Putting CNC3.exe in WinXP compatibility mode (right click on file) helped with crackling during movie sequence here with an Audigy2. There has been many different sound issues reported with this game, some need to run without AntiAliasing of all things to avoid them.
