HP Recovery Manager Help Needed!!!
Alright, I just wasted my night screwing around with my sister in laws notebook.
Its an HP Pavillion dv6000 running Vista Home Premium. I can't for the life of me get thing BS Recovery Partition crap to load. Everythign I've read says push f11 during post. Well I've done that, and every variation of that for the last hour. I see the partition, I see its got 6gigs of stuff on it, I just can't get the utility to load. If anyone has any insight as to how to do this, I'm all ears. If someone can get me the recovery software to install on the OS (its been removed), I'd be greatful. ( I won't go off on a rant on to how rediculous this process is, and that not offering the recovery software from the website is an abomination, or that when you spend $2,000 on a computer, they should go the extra mile and give you a $1.00 DVD with the software on it....) Anything anyone can do is great, thanks.

Alt + f11 you say?
The documentation and website say just f11. I believe I tried alt+f11, but I will give it another shot to be sure. Thank you very much for the response.

Its not working, don't know what else to do. Does anyone know how to get the recovery utility that runs within the OS?

Well, after a long night, I think everything is running acceptably. I was able to force the system to boot from the partition and reinstall windows. Don't ask me how I did it, I was sort of running on beer and frustration, and didn't really take not of all the steps I took.

I know how to activate if F11 does not help to start recovery.
If U can access to START > Control Panel > Administrative tools or shorter way: START > run > compmgmt.msc and press enter then Disk management Find which is recovery partition Make Mark partition as Active Then restart pc. |

You won't need to buy recovery disks if you just burn the disks at the start like HP tells you to.

Hello, on my computer it's not working. I've got a HP DV9670 Notebook. Before what i did was install another OS. After the installation my computer does not seeying the recover image, only an empty map.
So i was searching on the internet, and i saw a few thing what i must do to have my recovery back. Everything what i did above is not working. I've activate my recovery partition and restarted my note book, after restarting he goes to my windows and not start my recovery. Also if i press alt+f11 or only f11, he goes to my Windows. Can u help me?? Nothing works. |

As this is becoming a tradition - I have also registered to add my thanks for this solution which has saved me the expense and hassle of obtaining recovery disks from HP for a Pavilion dv6615.
I had loaded XP to check whether some software that wouldn't run on Vista was still OK on XP, happily thinking I had a recovery partition accessable with F11 and discovered too late that you needed Vista for the recovery manager (PC was "new" but ex demo so I had not run it initially and wanted to do a clean install anyway). HP Tech Support were only interested in selling disks - surely they should have been able to suggest this course of action! I shall now burn some recovery disks without delay ![]() Martin |

I need your help
I have tried to make a recovery disc for the hp factory settings windows vista. However, it does not continue burning and it is always interrupted. My windows now has crashed , i tried to use f11 system recovery but it doesn't work. I have the recovery partition on my harddisk. So, I installed an unactivated version of windows vista then I followed what is written here about making the recovery drive as an active drive.I then restarted the computer stops at a the black booting screen and no more loadings happens. I inserted the unactivated windows vista dvd and repaired the problem. Then I tried the step of making the partition as active again.this time the computer bypasses that order and boot the computer from the windows C: partition. So, What should I do right now or I just be obliged to buy the 40$ recovery discs? pleez I need your help |

As many before me have thanked you for the trick, and registered for this purpsoe, so have I as well!
I was having a conversation with an HP assisstant, per how to use my recovery, and he advised me to buy the recovery disks, while I was searching online for other alternatives. I have an HP Pavillon DV9543CL, and it worked perfectly on it, using the "trick", while I was loosing hope. Not to mention that I have wasted almost 3 hours, creating a recovery disk from another HP, just wondering I would be able to boot from it, but nop! Thanks again! |

Here I thought I'd be posting to say thanks, but I am having no luck, even setting that partition to active and trying all sorts of combinations of alt and f10 and f11.
I even went as far as to download EasyBCD to change my boot settings. All I get when I boot however is a quick screen where I see Grub and 2 boot menu items, put for the life of me I can't change the boot option. Up/down or ESC does nothing. I don't want to go as far as installing a linux distro or grub to the mbr, lest i mess something up and my girlfriend hurts me for it (its her computer). If someone has any insight into this method, please let me know. Thanks. |

Re: HP Recovery Manager Help Needed!!!
I just registered to say thank you. Alt + F11 trick worked for me. I am using HP pavillion dv2214 us laptop with windows vista installed on it.
I wonder why system prompts to press F11 when it was alt + F11 all the way. Hope some HP engineer is looking at this. |
