Booting problem of Toshiba Satellite 1100

Hi

Anybody help on the following problems faced by me.
Toshiba Satellite 1100
1. My Laptop does not boot till 3 minutes (displays Toshiba)
2. I tried formatting the HDD and now unable to install Win XP.
Stops responding when "Registering Components" only 32 minutes left appr.
I need to restart the installation from where it left. Never ending.
Some how I was able to complete installation of Win ME (Millenium Edition).
But unable to find any driver for win me/9x.
During OS installation, restart, laptop does not automatically come on. I need to
manually switch On to continue.

Can anybody suggest how to make the lap boot immediately.
Thanking you
