Laptop Locks? How safe are they?

I am in need of a way to secure my laptop at work from some 'questionable' people. I keep an eye on it AT ALL TIMES, but sometimes like when i goto the toilet and lunchroom etc i need to leave it for up to 5 mins. I just watched a video where some german guy beat a kensignton lock in under 30 seconds with a roll of toilet paper and a bit of tape. So are these things really as safe as they seem? And what are the best ones on the market?

most of the lock clips on the laptop itself are plastic and not metal anyways.....so I never saw the point

I know its not the best way, but i just want to deter anyone thinking about it because i work right next to the door which is right near the elevator so it would be a matter of 10 seconds someone would need to quickly grab it and go. If its attached to the desk at least that will give me a good response time if anyone tried to take it.
