hey, i have a 15.4 inch samsung lcd and it is giving me some trouble. the lcd only stays lit for about 15 seconds after i boot it up. when it loads the os and i hit the function button along with crt/lcd the screen lights up for about 5 seconds then turns dark. for the first 1 or 2 secs the screen has a a redish tint. when its dark if i stick my face right up to the screen i can see the desktop but the only way i can get it to light up is by hitting fn f8. is this the backlight? front light? inverter? anyone?

sounds like the backlight controls are messed up

I'd try these 3 things...in order:

-update/reinstall graphics drivers
-Format and reinstall the OS
-look into the RMA process if possible [warranty], otherwise take it to a tech shop and they can verify which part[s] is/are bad

i dont think so because i have another lcd thats cracked but works fine on the same laptop...iim actually trying to use the samsung as a replacement for the cracked one.

so it is the screen then and not the laptop...if that's the case, it sounds like a short in the backlight circuitry in the screen somewhere
