2 x 256mb Sodimm RAM for Gateway Solo 5300

I've just installed Win XP Pro over Win 98 SE on my otherwise trusty and very tidy Gateway Solo 5300 laptop. I think it would now be a good idea to double the RAM to cope if possible.

I currently have 2 x 126mb PC100 modules installed = 256mb in all. I note the Gateway support site says I can upgrade the modules to total 512mb but other sites say only to 256mb (eg Kingston's "your model" engine).

Does anyone know whether there is a problem installing 2 x 256mb chips in this computer? Are there any issues with brands used?

Which version of the 5300...there's a several revisions, like the CL, etc.

I THINK this is the one you mean:

Solo 5300cl
Max Memory : 512 MB
Expansion Slots : 2 sockets
Processor 650MHz Intel Mobile Pentium III
Details : 100MHz FSB, Intel 440ZX Chipset

in which case, yes, 2 sticks of 256MB PC 100/133 would work for you

Close, but is probably an earlier model (base model?) to Solo 5300cl. Labelling on bottom indicates just Solo 5300 - model 3500729. There are 2 expansion slots. Processor is only 551mhz Celeron. I'm pretty sure FSB iss 100Mhz.
