actually i was really thinking of trying to figure out a way to get an interactive flash sigy, one that would roll over effect and allowed you to click it, or show status or soemthing..... i'm full of ideas, i just haven't ANY way to show the world.... it's quite depressing

give me some ideas, i want to try many things to understand flash a bit better before i try and complicate it more by trying to stick it in a site. i thought about a fadein new picture when the mouse goes on it \ a button for specs but i dont have too many ideas, which is irritating.

if you want ideas.... i got them... if i can explain them well enough
try this, set it so that it displays a normal signature like any other one, however, every 15 seconds (about) it sorta flashes an alternate signature image.... like something is there. When the mouse moves onto any part of it, set it so that it splits into 4 or 5 even chunks (virtically sliced) that roll down from the top kind of like a slot machine (each rolling down at different intervals but not to slow as you'd lose interest in for some people )
at this point, it displays say, for my signature, i wanted UT2003/UTClassic/Quake 3/Quake Server status, being a sort of portrait in each part with the bottom stating ONLINE or OFFLINE.... when you move you mouse onto any one of these, they would close seperately, CLICKING each one would take you to a seperate link. For example, in the Game Forum, there is a thread dedicated servers, each server has it's own post so each link would have it's specific link to each post.
Also, i wonder if you can do a crumple effect from top to bottom or right to left (right to left would act like wind ripping the top layer image off)
My sister says Flash has quite some pretty amazing capablities, it just needs imagination and understanding

do you mean there is a normal signature and then after 15 or so seconds it changes into 5 seperate images. these images react when the mouse goes over them by rolling. do they all roll when the mouse is on the sig or only the section that the mouse is on?
for the second section - do you mean that each section has its own static label at the bottom while it rolls that acts as a link? or is the rolling only temporary which ends with a small portrait image of each section\game which then displays the server status and has an active link?
-----------
the links are certainly possible, but i don't know of anyway that the server status would be easily editable other than editing with the .fla file and re-hosting.

Well i'm not completely sure, see when i ment roll, i ment it kinda rolls down into position (it doens't technically make a full revolution at all)
and normal signature, i ment for example the kind of signature you currently have for yours. Typical flash....
yes, they all roll down. if no one clicks it in say 5 seconds.. it reverts back to the typical signature image.
Another thing is say not making the signature complete, is this possible? could it be made to read other files to determine itself? for example, could you get it to read an external file place on the same directory server which could be edited easily? say a txt that has one word be it ONLINE or OFFLINE and simply overwriting the file would apply the update to the signature without having to completely recompile it?

well i know you can use an XML file for that.. but all the animations i've made that way had to be saved as html i think, i'm not sure the swf reads the XML file, so you wouldn't be able to use it as a signature. however that was with images, i will try it with text when i get home, unless anyone can answer it for me. can the swf read the XML or just the htm preview of it?
and i think i get what you mean now. i think i will try this after work because my girlfriend isn't home till much later

template -
do you mean like this? so a 'normal' sig - pause - falling \ rolling seperate images (currently colours) with links to each section you want - then back to start

kinda, could you make it so that only when the mouse is moves onto it, it THEN shows the seperate links/images...
But that's a good example

yeh thats possible, might try that later, im all flashed out at the moment (just made my mate a flash splash to his site.. simple but irritating) did you want the coloured blocks to be images of each game? should the seperate images dissapear on a timer, or only when the mouse goes off of the sig? i think that would be quite cool.. i think i am getting your idea now

which ever seems best, you could maybe make a few different versions and post em at once...
i'm not sure, but you've made some unique 2D looking stuff, you could probably make a quick looking computerized steel inface or something, (like a frame that goes around each portrait) This would soften up the edges so that when they "roll" down, they don't have a sudden color cut off for each
images of each game would be inside these frames.
your picking up on my idea quite quickly yes, I actually have yet to record this short "video" of the what i'd like for my main signature. PJ was orginally going to make it, still can, i think working together on something is most excellent as both learn something
It wouldn't be hard to spice 2 swf together as one would it?

I like it. Cool beans, Nifty, I didle in Flash here and there. Took some Director 7 classes in college. My problem is the macromedia stuff has changed alot since I learned it so I have navigational issues. Can't find where they put stuff. LOL, never have enough time to figure it out.
