Etch-A-Sketch "drawing"
I "drew" this a couple years ago. It is a scene of a bow hunter in the woods, drawn back on a buck.
I have discovered it is very difficult to capture a picture of an Etch-A-Sketch drawing, it took about 30 tries before I got a half-way decent picture.
It was impossible inside, it was impossible outside anywhere but a wide open field with no trees or clouds in the sky that will create reflections on the screen.. I had to go out on a clear night, right after sunset- in the middle of a field to get this shot. I still had to take it at a slight angle. It was taken with a regular 3mp camera.
Anyway- I have three shots here, or versions of the same shot- One is the original, one is after a good stretching out w/ PS, the last is what the thing really looks like when you are standing in person looking at it- it has more contrast than the original- it just lets you see it a little better.
People are amzed I draw on an Etch-A-Sketch, they are more amazed I do it upside down, that is because I started using one when I was 3 years old, before I could read, and it was natural for me because I am a lefty.
original: (reduced in size only)
"fixed" proportions through PS
darkened a little to show more detail
So there is my Etch-A-Sketch drawing. It has been un-shaken on a shelf for about 4 years. (crossing fingers)
edit- in case anyone's wondering why the bow looks funny- it's because it's a brand called "Onieda" the model is a "Strike Eagle"- I happen to own one.
looks something like this:
small Onieda bows website

That's awesome!!! It must have taken quite a while to complete that. I never could get the hang of drawing diagonals on one of those things.

you can call etch a sketch, they have someway of making it permanent, there are lots of sketchers that like to keep what they make.

I've been testing a game that's due to be released very soon. These images fit right in. I hope you don't mind me sharing these (with credit) with my buds on that forum.
Excellent work!!

No problem, I've got the demo installed- if that's the same game you are talking about.. It's pretty cool actually..
Thanks for the compliments everyone, much appreciated!! I think I'm going to attempt another one someday, maybe a portrait of someone famous or something..

Yeah, I think you have to drill a whole and let all the metallic particles out- But I think you have to do it before you make the picture-- But I 'm going to call them someday to find out if I can make it permanent after I already drew it w/o erasing is--

LOL- yeah, one wrong vibration and all I have is these pictures- No proof I did it I think I could use something very gentle to drill a hole in the back, and drain out the stuff in there- then be really careful and cut the back off to get the rest out..

I lost track of this thread, but remembered the Etch-a-Sketch when Jeff Fallang posted a wood carving he did of deer in the woods.
I also never answered this question about Deer Hunter 2004. Yes, that is the one I was testing. It's been out for a while now and has quite a following. Very good hunter simulation if you like that type of game. Also has some really nice online gaming options for multiple hunters.

Thank you!
Next time I go back to my parents house (where my portfolio is), I'll see if I can scan some more of my stuff in and get it posted up here.... I have a few more things I think are worthy of posting. Problem is that allot of my stuff is huge, and not scanable, and the best digital camera I have access to is a 2mp that is hard to get a good representation of the pic I'm photographing..
I had a buddy make a bunch of small slides of a bunch of my older stuff a long time ago, I always wondered if it was possible to scan in slides at a high DP- then blow them up in photoshop and get a good result. He went to Rhode Island School of Design for Photography, and they all turned out pretty good. I'll have to try that.
