Maidens lance..
we watched From the rampart walls
the mist gathered and the snow began to fall
icy winds forced us behind the granite face
and we gathered with armour, sword and mace
searching the sky from heaven or hell
the first assualt of the mountain dragon fell.
brave souls were firm and bore the volley of its deadly breath
and drove cold steel into its flanks before greeting death.
the beast is not hungry for souls but flesh and blood
with sides pierced and torn it lay in snow and mud
with a burst of flame the beast lay silent and cold
a maiden in chainmail stood brave and bold.
her lance buried well in the monster's scaly hide
she claimed the heart of the dragon and no one dare challenge
nor dare they reply.
No one among them could repel dragons attack.
the virgin conquered the beast
but the men turned their backs.
pure of spirit and pure of heart
one soul among them found her mark.
