My ghost
I saw my own ghost today He turned and tried to run away I begged him if he would sit and stay Well I had nothing to do the entire day. We talked about life and we laughed and cried our friends our family and those that have died I asked when I might join him and he sadly replied he choked on a word or two then fell silent, and kept it all inside. Its not that simple he said, and he rubbed both his hands over his eyes. he looked round and round and stood, he said "well you know how time flys" I thought, like moths to a flame our destiny is so close and death just a step away. I followed my ghost into the light and he disappeared perhaps to meet me again on I hope, on another day. I waited for morning and walked back home from the bridge where I stood all night for my ghost to return Maybe our paths might never cross again I thought, and perhaps they might, but a lesson I have learned. Life and death are the same wrapped in a mortal coil unwinding as we take each step towards our fate. Last night on the bridge I sought the comfort of death, but my ghost asked me to wait. Why must you be so early why not just be late. |
