Southhampton Dock by Roger Waters
they disembarked in 45 and no one spoke and no one smiled
there were too many spaces in the line
gathered at the cenotaph
all agreed with the hand on heart
to sheath the sacrificial knifes
but now
she stands upon southampton dock
with her handkerchief
and her summer frock clings
to her wet body in the rain
in quiet desparation knuckles
white upon the slippery reigns
she bravely waves the boys goodbye again
and still the dark stain spreads between
his shoulder blades
a mute reminder of the poppy fields and graves and when the fight was over we spent what they had made
but in the bottom of our hearts
we felt the final cut

Roger Waters is interesting, morbid and a little melodramatic, If I might suggest some good groups. The Byrds is a good beginning,
The Byrds
Roger McGuinn
Gene Clark
David Crosby
Chris Hillman
Michael Clarke
Gram Parsons
The Flying Burrito Brothers
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
McGuinn, Clark & Hillman
Souther, Hillman, Furay
Manassas
The Desert Rose Band
CPR
Rice, Rice, Hillman & Pedersen
The International Submarine Band
Crosby & Nash
Chris Hillman & Herb Pedersen
Dillard & Clark
Ever Call Ready
Gene Clark & Carla Olson

Not many may agree but the Final Cut is IMO the best anti war CD ever
And for me the best Pink floyd album, text-wise anyway.. "not now John" is timeless....
Still have the org. "holographic-recorded" vinyl.

Yeah, didnt care for division bell that much, and of course, Rodger Waters is pretty self indulgent. He reminds me of Pete Townsend and the whole Tommy business, you know, the post war dream.

Hmm yeah, but in WW2 England the population suffered real bad and long, that must have left it's mark on alot of the post war children also IMM.
Btw Love Tommy in the Classic version with the London Symp.Orchestra, with Maggie Bell, Ringo Star, Steve Winwood, and Rod Steward and many more
