losing her mind by Jeff Fallang
The stove warms the corner of the little store
the woman leans upon the polished glass
hours of idle thoughts of her life before
of love and adventure and togetherness
her hands are clasped and her eyes are closed
she remembers music and dancing and moonlight prose
the door announced a customer and she turns
and warmly recalls why her heart and soul still yearns
for the touch of the stranger so fresh in her memory
behind her sweeps the product of her union she recalls so blissfully
the customer smiles and touches her hand
and brings her into the rapture she knew with her man
for a moment in time, her eyes show her warmest desire
from smallest ember grows her passion like a fire.
She follows him outside and stands in the light
her ghostly stranger has come back for her this night
And there for a moment they kiss and embrace
she feels the moment and leaves this place
Where her dreams became one so long ago
she knew a man for one night and let him go
She opens her eyes and draws deeply in the night
for her customer, her stranger, her ghost is gone with the light
daugher smiles and embraces her mother
and gently leads her back inside
the woman lingers in time, remembering her long lost lover
and her daughter wonders if she is losing her mind.
