The Journey
I recall
a cold evening in 1965
barely old enough to understand the fall
holding my breath hanging on to life.
But I wont go back there anymore
wont try to even the score
forgot what the fighting was for
sailed my ship for a distant shore.
From the branch of a tree I saw a terrible sight
couldnt sleep for years .
cursed my eyes and cursed the light
fought with anger and fought with fear
But I wont go back there anymore
wont try to even the score
forgot what the fighting was for
sailed my ship for a distant shore.
tender lips gave me one last kiss
a warriors journey I made my first steps
forgot about love and the family I missed
no hope for the future and the past no regrets.
But I wont go back there anymore
wont try to even the score
forgot what the fighting was for
sailed my ship for a distant shore.
My children called to find the father they lost
among the pictures in an old shoebox
My hardly remember the terribly cost
and sat on the porch and felt the first frost.
But I wont go back there anymore
wont try to even the score
forgot what the fighting was for
sailed my ship for a distant shore.
Eternal father what have I ever done
to deserve this fate as my memory dies
and find my children, my daughter and son
and learn to remember and stop telling myself lies.
But I wont go back there anymore
wont try to even the score
forgot what the fighting was for
found my life and my love on a distant shore.
I search hard for forgiveness and one true friend
and found them at last where my journey began....

You know I was just thinking, with a guitar I cant play anymore on my lap how Bob Segar's song Like a Rock sounded, and Night Moves and I wanted something like that for myself, just three chords and a slide guitar for the melody and solo, like a blues song...that was where my mind was at really..
