Garden Mist
The rain fell slow and steady as the warm mist began to rise past the garden gate I see the water dripping down the honysuckle vines. I can smell the earth and I can feel the moisture and I have to close my eyes. I remember a girl from Louisiana, and sweet memories start to fill my mind. A stranger to the magnolia and the weeping willow and the dark red clay I couldnt help but see her golden soft skin against a passionette sky I walked hand in hand with her down quiet easy lanes on warm sunny days. I told her I couldnt stay and we held each other as long as we could, she never asked why. And now when I hear the rain falling down on the soft summer grass My heart is torn from the present and I yearn for that yesterday and her sweet kiss. I wish just once I could taste again, what I knew would never last The tender lips of the sweetest girl I can recall, her memory lingers in the garden mist.
