Quick Help with Scanner

Have a

Umax Astraslim SE

scanner, downloaded and installed the driver for it, but windows refuses to recognise the drivers.
Keeps telling me that driver installation has failed and I can't use the device.
Re-installed a couple times, but still get this msg when I try to run the prog:
"Cannot Opperate!
Please check the scanner is connected........."etc

anyone help? I'm in a pickle, I need to get a bunch of files scanned and sent by lunchtime.

What version Windows? I just tried to install an Epson CX4800 all in one printer/scanner/copier on my wifes machine running Win2000 SP4 and had all sorts of issues.

Turned out the problem was that the external USB ports on the back of the motherboard were USB 1.1 and it needed 2.0. Strangely enough the header on the motherboard was 2.0.

I ended up having to install a PCI USB 2.0 card to get it to work properly.

christ, sometimes I'm so dumb I scare myself.

I found the scanner when I moved house.
It was sealed in its box, all the plastic and polywhatsit around it.
So I looked at the side of the box, plugged the name into driverguide, and spent an hour trying to make it work.

Then, in a moment of inspiration, I turned the scanner over and looked at the sticker on the bottom.

It's a bloody Artec Ultima.

Anyways, don't know how or why it was in a umax box, but it's working now anyway.

cheers for your response though yousaif.

didn't read that properly first time round, too busy kicking myself

coincidently, I have the same issue with my gf's shuttle, but the other way round.

the back ones are usb2.0, but the front's seem stuck at 1.1

sp2, generic drivers etc don't make any difference, every time I plug anything into the front I get that little window pop up telling me that "this device can work faster".

strange, never figured it out.

If you check the documentation for your mobo it probably says that it has both 1.1 and 2.0 USB interfaces. Otherwise it could be that the ports on the case may not be 2.0 compatible. Dunno fer sure.
