My 9600 XT is not working!!! Please Help!!

Hi folks!! Just wondering if you could help me out.... Here is the rundown!
I just got a new mother board (Biostar P4M80-M4 /VIA P4M800 + VT8237 chipset ) and now my video card will not work with it!
I used the 5.10 Cat with the control center, and whenever I would go into the CCC itwould freze up or give an error message somthing about the preview.exe file and ati.dll files. When ever I would go into a game it would not even start it half the time or it would freeze up right at the start. When I reboot It would tell me the system recovered from a seriouse error and give me a whole bunch of codes.
I have the Award bios program 6.0 version. I am at wits end right now and can't think of what else to do, I have used the original drivers on the cat disk and they do not work. I have not tried the omega or DNA drivers as of yet. The rest of my system runs beautifully except for when I try to use the graphics card then it just freezes up!!!
I have a freind who has helped me set up the bios ( he runs his own computor shop building and fixing computors) but even he can't understand what is wrong. I don't have the cash to go for a new graphics card right now and I need all the help I can get!!!
Here are my specs:
Intel P4 2.4
Biostar P4M80-M4 / VIA P4M800 + VT8237 chipset
60 gb maxtor Ide hd
ATI Radeon 9600 XT
768 mb ddr ram

Could it be a part of my bios settings??? I just tried the new omega drivers and it does the same exact thing, I don't get any errors but the game freezes... I have the newes Via 4 in 1 drivers for my mobo from the manufacture. Should I try to use the Hyperion drivers off their website???? I really need some help guys!!!!

You can try changing the AGP speed from 8x to 4x. Also, trying turning on and off the Fast Writes.

Be sure you're changing those settings in the bios as well, not just the Windows driver settings...

OK...

You might try the Omegadrive driverset. I'm running the 5.9s at present on this machine with no issues, and his 5.9 set doesn't have the Catalyst Control Center that is giving you issues. Be sure to use the DH DriverCleaner according to instructions if you are using ATIs offcial Catalyst set right now. Both the Omegadrive driverset and DriverCleaner are available here:

I checked Biostar's site and the latest VIA chipset drivers they have for download is the 4.55s - right at a year old - and I'm hesitant to recommend 'updating' them in your case as you just bought the board and are likely already using that version, but you can check. If you are running an older version, a chipset update would be a good thing to do too.

Also, does your problem happen only in some 3D games and not in others?

no this problem happens in all 3d aplications!!! I have the Omega drivers currently installed:
ATI Technologies Inc. (Omega 2.6.75a)
10/13/2005
8.183.0.0
I will check the ones you have listed!!!
Yeah I have the 5.10's now and I have tried both the new chipset drivers from Biostar and also from the Via Hyperion site. I have the Pro_V504A installed now. Neither one of them or the originals that were sent with the board do anything different.
