LCD problems, why can't they just be perfect?

Well I have a nec 1980sxi lcd and there is a very noticable backlight issue in the top right corner. I have seen worse on some of my friends LCDs but I just dont get why they cant fix this. Is there anyway to improve this problem? I can't really see it during the day or when my light is on in the room, but watching a black screen or dark game it becomes noticable, especially at night.

I have another 1980sxi being shipped to me today, I will be keeping them both. I hope the new one has a more even backlight. If so, I will use the 1st one as my second monitor in my dual display setup.

This is just a bit annoying though when this monitor retails for 750. I can say that there are no dead pixels though

Also I have been looking all over the place for some information on the best settings for this monitor. It comes defaulted at 100% brightness and 50% contrast. At 100 bightness it just about blinds you. Does anyone have this monitor that can help me out with their best settings or know where I can find out? Thanks

An annoyingly uneven backlight condition would be cause, in my estimation, for a call to the vendor or manufacturer for a replacement or warranty repair. Your faith in obtaining a second identical unit will help you - you'll be able to compare the two and see what differences exist.

Well I recieved the second identical monitor yesterday and hooked it up. Same exact lighting problem. To tell you the truth though, it seems to have gotten better after using the monitors for a day. I only notice it at night with black background, and even then its not bad at all.

I am also proud to say the second monitor does not have any dead or hot pixels either!! So I think it would be better to keep these two then try to get a new one that might come with dead pixels. And it is safe to say the new ones would look exactly the same, since these two do.

I highly recommend these babies though, they are so bright its amazing. And I have never seen a lcd reproduce color like these, wow! No ghosting either. But I guess you get what you pay for, $750 for a 19inch is insane.

Now, The only problem I have is that the vga output on my x800 is a slightly different hue then the dvi output. The DVI has a little bit more red. ghhr. And since this is my fist time using a flat panel on vga, I can safely say that yes, DVI looks sharper! And yes the color is also better on DVI. VGA also has this annoying look to it, I cant even explain it. But it looks like a crt, when you look real close at a solid color you can see some sort of signal movement, strange. Still, even the vga looks good. Im guessing if you had never seen the dvi instead you would never care.

Looks like a 9250 pci with dvi might be my option.

I've read here that LCDs might need a bit of "burn in" time - let it go a week or two. Glad to hear you're happy. It doesn't surprise me that the color is a little different on the DVI versus the VGA and is more stable. The DVI is digital - rock solid sync. VGA is analog - the signal is prone to slight drift compared to a digital signal.
