Weird DVD_RW Noises

Ok, I noticed this morning that my Nec 3520A DVD_RW drive makes this rattling noise when it reads an audio cd. Never noticed this noise before. I tried a game cd and it doesn't make it nor when I play a DVD. Anyone got any ideas?

Rattling... like spinning very fast? Game CD's are not constantly read like audio CDs. Has it done that before with audio CDs in the past?

Similar thing happened to me. Rattled for a couple days then devoured a Bowie album completely. Drive was toast.

That probably doesn't help any, but in my case the noise from the drive was really quite loud and invasive. Not the kind of thing that 'might always have been and I only just noticed now', if you see what I mean.

If it plays DVD's without rattling that shouldn't be an issue, should it?? I thought that DVD's spin constantly same as audio's?

I dunno. It's weird that it makes the rattling noise when playing audio cd's, but when playing dvd's it's fine
