please help...

hello.

recently i decided to upgrade my PC specs:
some AMD@1.3ghz
Fx5200
512mb PC3200 kingston RAM

to AMD2600+ barton, 1gb ram and ati 9800pro. My motherboard is QDI Kudoz7x http://www.qdigrp.com/qdisite/eng/Products/kudoz7x.htm

i took out the mobo, heat sink and replaced the new CPU, added the RAM and the gfx. However my PC just fails to start up. There's no display or sign of PSU being connected what so ever. I fiddled with the wires and it did start up, there was display but it shut down suddenly in 10s. So i replaced the gfx with the old one...but no luck. btw i did connect the 9800pro with the molar connecter.

i've tried 2 PSU's, but in vain. could it be the wires from the front of the box to the mobo..the power sw, reset, HD led ones or any other wires? is it the PSU? i haven't touched the jumper settings...should i?
so where might the problem reside?

any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

To isolate troubled hardware try to remove unnecessary components like the floppy drive/CD-ROM and sound card. Just plug in 1 stick of RAM and video card. Be sure the processor is seated properly and has proper contact with the heatsink.

P.S - Was this purchase part of some uber affordable bundle? I have never heard of QDI before and from the looks of their website, they look very "budget" minded.

qdi is my really old mobo that i bought 3 years ago. they're not the best in the market and could be considered as budget. i didnt want to change my mobo, so decided to keep this one....

Have you verified with the manufacturer if that board would allow your new components in? Especially if you've swapped memory because most of the "budget" boards will only use very specific memory. And does the PC POST or does the screen just stay blank/off. You did mention it turning in but not weter you saw it POST or not.

i tested the memory without the new CPU and it works fine. i think the problem might lie in the PSU. its only 300w and quite weak at the rails. so cant handle the amd2600+ and the 9800pro. what do you think?
the psu btw: http://www.joujye-computer.com/psu1_jj-300ppga.htm

exige,
You may be hitting on the problem with your PSU, take No_Style's suggestion as is - undo all drives, all cards (except video), use one stick of ram, make sure the Barton 2600+ is seated and heat sinked properly and see if the machine boots.

Not only will you be confirming operation of the new CPU - you'll be eliminating a decent percentage of startup current (the drives...) on the essential 12v line. If the machine boots and holds ok - you have likely also confirmed a weak PSU.
