GPS Interface
Hello all. One of my recent clients was a charter boat captain that had a computer interfaced with a GPS and some chartplotting software. It is via COM1 on the serial port using NMEA protocol. For some odd reason, if the GPS is on before the computer, it is identified as a serial ballpoint mouse. When this happens, it locks the serial port, and prevents the chartplotting software from communicating with the GPS, or even hyperterminal for that matter. The only solution i have found so far is to turn the GPS on after the computer has booted up, and it won't be identified as a mouse, and the port will not be locked in use. The client is more than satisfied, but I am not. Does anyone have any suggestions?
