Fantom USB Ext Hard Drive problem

Well, it's a USB external HD with 80 gigs. The inside is an 80gig WD Caviar.

My problem:
Once in a while, it goes unmounted (disappears from the HD list, making it basically "undetected"), and it only does so when active (either read or write).

I don't know what the exact problem is. It wasn't heat, I tried it and it even disconnected while it was still colder.

However, at times, it does NOT do this. I don't know if it's my configuration or what.

System Specs

try it on another computer and try to get it to do the same thing. If it works fine transfering on the other comp, you know it's something on yours. Throw the name of your drive in google and see if others are having a similar problem. Check at WD's website, etc.

there are only 3 possible solutions or things which would be wrong.. ok 4ish:
1. Your fantom external hd is broken... test it at a friends house
2. your hard drive is busted... test it internally or at a friends using the fantom
3. our PC is causing the problem, IE your usb port or windows

either way, test it at a friends house.

Ok, this is what I know.

my old pc, which has USB 1.1 (god knows I won't be using the HD on that thing) works perfectly. Doesn't disconnect or anything.

I don't know if it's USB related or something... on my computer that is. My first thought was maybe one of the services that I disabled makes it dismount. Tried enabling the services, and still dismounts. Also, when i unplug and then replug the already dismounted HD, it won't get detected. I have to shut off its power supply and restart it for it to get redetected.

And also, I always search on google or some where to find a solution to my problem.
