music skipping, IMs jerking, and Word freezing

Alright I dont know when this started but when I open up iTunes and play music...and I type...the music skips. When I stop typing, its fine. This is kinda REALLY annoying. And on that note, my IM windows act REALLY freaky too. I've been toying with the PCI latency thinking that it had something to do with that...im not really sure though.

Anyway I dont get whats wrong...its just acting extremely funny and I havent figured out how to fix it.

Basically it means that I cannot listen to music when on the computer.

Maybe somethings wrong with the audio driver? I cant tell. I think it must be something to do with the sound card.

Sheesh this thing has given me trouble since day one. I have an SB LIVE 5.1 and no matter what drivers I try to install, it keeps saying "is not a soundblaster card" The only drivers that work are the old as sin ones that came on the CD.

Anyway I talked to Creative and they say its probably an IRQ conflict and that I should move the soundcard. unfortunately theres no other place to put it, so I dunno what to do. It has behaved fairly well(other than installation woes) until now. And music never did this. Does anyone have an idea as to whats up?

oh yeah btw I have an ASUS A7N8X which is an Nforce2 Ultra chipset.

shoot, i do that even when i don't have any computer problems......i do it just because .

well, anyways; gemini, i do not know what could be the problem. have you been overclocking your system at all? If you have been, have you locked the AGP/PCI bus? If you have not locked the bus, then that could be your problem right there. That's the only thing i can think of right now at least. Oh and the drivers, i know what you're talking about. Back when i had the Sound Blaster LIVE 5.1, it gave me the same problem. Creative's drivers suck major @$$. The way i came around it was to install the drivers off the CD, then "update" the drivers manually. It worked sometimes, but not always.

hmm i should try the mobo drivers.

Naw the thing is that I can lock my AGP bus but i dont think I can lock PCI. I Dunno though. I havent been able to find a place to do it.

The deal is that this hasnt been a prob before though. I've been OCing to 400mhz FSB no prob. The last few weeks I've been down to 360 though (for testing purposes) so maybe the lower OC somehow is messing things up? I have no idea. Maybe the PCI divider only works well if its at 133, 166, or 200 mhz FSB?

well, how long ago did this start happening? When you started your DCing (Down Clocking ) your system down to 360? Try running at 133, 166, and 200. If it runs fine there and doesn't give you any other problems, and it does at any other FSB speeds, then that is probably what is causing your problems. It's an xp2800 or xp3000? I forget.

have you tried playing music through a palyer other than iTunes?

EDIT: also try the kX drivers too if you can (use drivercleaner between uninstalling the CL drivers and installing kX)

look. For music, KX is best. I wont argue. I loved it for music...but it CANNOT do games. The sound was decent(JUST decent) but it wouldnt even do surround sound(even after following lots of help from several KX people) in games and that just made me decide that those drivers were not for me.

Plus I like EAX. I hear people saying that regular DirectX sound is just as good, but its not. Its not nearly the same.
