As long as there is no software that goes along with it, and you haven't run any tweak programs (such as PS2Rate), then you should be fine swapping it out for the new one.

'Course, if you really want to go the distance you can go into Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager, then scroll through the list till you hit your mouse, right click it, then uninstall. Just be aware that as soon as you do that it won't work anymore, and it's keyboard time all the way until you get the new one installed. If you need to shut down quickly the machine to install the new mouse (ie.. another PS2 mouse) ALT-F4 does the trick.

shouldn't the software be compatible with both devices? they are the same series afterall… maybe just "updating" the software with the newer package of the MX518 CD

Check your local BestBuy for the MX518 ,I saw them in My local one last weekend then went and picked one up yesterday.I also picked up one of the new Saitek Eclipse backlight keyboards there ,it surprised me that they had those in stock as well.

I've consistantly bought ones from Gamerstuff/Everglide for a long time. I still have one of their Everglide Attack pads. I like the Attack pad (the larger version is the Gigantica one.. and it's HUGE) cuz of the silver particle count in the pad, plus it's a hard plastic surface.

A friend of mine has been raving about the X-Trac Pro HS pad, although it's a rubber mouse pad.

I'm thinking of upgrading to something else though from Gamerstuff/Everglide, maybe one of their fuZe pads, but I've also been looking at the new Icemat 2 glass pad. Thing is expensive, but they are supposed to be the best pads out there.

Why, just pull it out!!

j/k, I'm sort of in a hurry, but I'd have tried to help you if I could. Yea, like has already been said, just make sure any software that got installed with it get removed, so as to avoid conflicts with any other gaming mice you'd like to install, esp. Logitech ones. (or maybe not).

If you didn't install any software for it, you're OK, but if you do have software installed you should remove it or problems can come up.

note: the mx518, since it's the newest mouse from logitech, uses the newest drivers. the 2.30s. They assign certain drivers depending on your mouse. For instance, my mx1000, if i go to the site and select mx1000, they assign the 2.14s (or they did at the time), but im using the 2.30s cuz theyre updated and they work 100% fine with the mx1000
