Decisions....Decisions...
hey guys,
i would like to ask you guys on your opinon on what would be the best combination of Graphic Card, CPU and Motherboard.
I've got my CPU sorted..
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...73&GroupID=409
and my graphic card and motherboard come together all in one
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...25&GroupID=331
but....
i was think of getting a different motherboard and a better card..
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...12&GroupID=331
that card, and maybe a motherboard that would go very well with it (SLI Motherboard, suggestions are always welcome ) im not sure which though .
i checked on guru and the 6800GT is alot better in higher resoloutions, but when put up against the dual 6600GT with AA and AF the Dual 6600GT wins the battle.
being a big realism fan i like to have most of the time Full AA and AF , and my obvious choice would be Dual 6600GT
but maybe you guys have tried it, and seen the real benchmarks on games like CSSource.
so im in a bit of a jam
Dual 6600GT 6800GT + New Motherboard
a friend says go for the 6600GT also as you would save alot of money instead of spending 300 for the graphic card and 120+ for the motherboard.
but i would really like your suggestions, there might be someone out there that has seen the true power of the 6600 and 6800..
cheers,
-Soldja

the original proc you suggested is a socket 754 and the mobo (that came with the graphics card) was socket 939, it wont fit! most people here generally agree socket 939 is better (dual channel memory, longer upgrade future) so you'll want to look for a s939 processor
EDIT: This is a very popular model atm:

well, at stock (no overclocking) then the one you posted, the 3800, is faster by 200mhz - you wont really notice the difference. the 3500 i posted is a newer design and is 90nm rather than 130nm so uses a little less power and is slightly cooler. in normal use you wont notice the difference perhaps the odd 1 or 2 fps in games better with the 3800. id save the £70 or so, get the 3500 and get a better graphics card, or get a DVD writer, or a few beers down the pub

dont bother with the faster processor, spend the money on getting a better known brand of RAM - most people would advise this im sure. something like this if you want budget stuff http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...631&GroupID=56
also, why are you getting an ide hard drive (older) rather than a sata one (newer)? i dont think there much difference in performance (or price), but you may as well have the newer stuff. something like this (virtually the same as the one you had but in sata format):
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...99&GroupID=596
oh, when you say RAM(2) you do mean youre gonna get 2 of them dont you because id certainly reccommend having 1GB of RAM in total.
apart from that, youve got yourself one hell of a pc which im sure youll love
EDIT: do you realise the links you posted for the graphics crads are 6800, not 6800gt, theyll still be good, but there is a performace difference

nice, thanx for the tips
so im getting the 80gb hardrive you said
and the RAM (which is 2 sticks)
the 6800 GT cant seem to find that in microdirect anyone got any luck ?
the CPU: the CPU i currently have is a AMD 3000+ which isnt going to run BF2 very well
but the 3800+ sure will
another thing is the mother board
the current one i have is an Abit KW7 880 i was wondering if the 6800 GT is compatible with this mother board
if not ill just get that one i mentioned...
