Default Post 2 Gb Fibre Channel SAN-attached RocketSTOR RAID Arrays

Philadelphia, PA, Nov. 6, 2002 - Zzyzx Peripherals, Inc., a leading integrator of data storage and backup products and solutions for UNIX, Linux, Windows and NetWare computing environments, announced today the immediate availability of its new family of 2 Gb Fibre Channel SAN-attached RocketSTOR RAID arrays at LISA '02 Systems Administration Conference and Exhibition (Zzyzx, Booth 613).

Shown for the first time here at LISA '02, the premier hands-on technology event for systems management/administration products and services, are Zzyzx' new "end-to-end" 2 Gb Fibre Channel generation of RAID disk arrays: the RocketSTOR C8821, RocketSTOR R4424 and R4421, and the RocketSTOR M4223. With full 2 Gb Fibre Channel connectivity from host server to disk drive, the RocketSTOR 2 Gb family of products are designed for midrange to enterprise class disk storage needs requiring from 500 GB to 36 TB storage capacity and the leading-edge connectivity, performance, and scalability of the 2 Gb Fibre Channel storage interface.

The 2 Gb Fibre Channel storage interface offers double the performance with 200 MB/sec transfer rates per loop over the previous 1 Gb Fibre Channel specification, and offers highly increased IOPS performance due to improved Fibre Channel chip design. These improvements combined with the advancements of Zzyzx' new 2 Gb RocketSTOR RAID controller architecture has created a new family of RAID products available from Zzyzx that offers quadruple the performance, double the capacity, increased options for host connectivity and improved system management over their previous 1 Gb Fibre Channel product line.

The RocketSTOR 2 Gb RAID products offer configurations that scale to 760 MB/sec. transfer rate and 100,000 IOP performance, as well as 36 TB capacities and support for 8 direct-attached or 128 SAN-attached servers. All products in the RocketSTOR family are designed with no single point-of-failure, and all field replaceable units (FRUs) are redundant and hot-swap--including the RAID controllers, disk enclosures, power supplies and cooling fans. High availability is also implemented with host channel alternate-path, multiple dual-loop drive channels, dual-loop disk enclosures integrated with dual-loop disk drives, as well as online capacity expansion and hot firmware upload functions.

Zzyzx' RocketSTOR data storage systems are key components to Zzyzx' built-to-order Storage Area Networks (SAN), offering storage consolidation, SAN-NAS convergence, storage virtualization, high availability, data protection, and disaster recovery solutions. Zzyzx' SAN solutions feature a "best-of-breed" product offering that includes Overland Storage, Qualstar and Quantum tape libraries; Brocade, Emulex, McData and Qlogic storage networking products; and Legato, Syncsort, Tivoli and Veritas software products. In addition to the new line of RocketSTOR products, Zzyzx will also exhibit some of the key components to their innovative SAN storage solutions at LISA '02, including:
" Zzyzx' StingRAID, an entry level FC/SCSI to IDE RAID disk array

" Overland Storage's NEO DLT tape library

" Qualstar's TLS 4000 AIT tape library

" Auspex' NSc 3000 NAS file server appliance enabling SAN-NAS storage
consolidation

" Legato's suite of software products
