Thank goodness for new PSUs!

My parents got me this new PSU for my birthday, but the guys at Fry's cheated them. The sale was for an Ultra X-Connect PSU and they were sold a simple 500w Ultra PSU. Now from what I've read, besides the asthetics, these PSUs are identical...but I was still pissed so I had every intention of going to Frys and telling them to exchange it out(we still had the receipt which read "Ultra X-Connect PSU" and the ad in the paper with the quoted price) anyway things got pretty bad with my old Antec 350w PSU, so I finally decided that I didnt care, as long as the PSU was good. If I had any problems, I'd take it back and give them what for.

Well so its up and running. Lets look at the comparison

Antec 350 True-Blue
3.3v @ 3.08v (yes 3.08)
5v @ 4.8v
12v @ 12.3v
vcore set to 1.65 @ 1.69

Ultra 500w Low-Noise PSU
3.3v @ 3.28v
5v @ 4.999v
12v @ 12.48v
vcore set to 1.65 @ 1.66

I have to say that I'm very impressed. Both the voltage tester AND the bios report much closer to normal voltages than the antec. The antec has never been powerful enough for my computer. Even stripping down to no optical drives wasnt enough. Anyway I decided that after the random shutdowns and loss of data, I just couldnt go on. I had school to think about. So there we are.

Plus I'm getting a 9800XT from a friend in a few days and I wanna be ready for it

you should take it back and get the x-connect in return - you'll find cable management much easier

actually the cables on this PSU are really nice. They arent nearly as nasty as the antec.

I agree that it'd be better to get the X-Connect but it is almost a 2 hour drive to Fry's, it'd be at least an hour wait at the service desk to get the X-Connect, and in the end they will probably not exchange it.

Drakon will become famous soon enough

hmmm, isn't that false advertisement if the ad in the paper says one thing, but the purchased product is another? i would deal with the 2 hr drive and whatever and get the X-Connect. If they didn't want to exchange them, i would have them give me my money back and then tell them to f*ck off... but that's just me

MNDS is on a distinguished road

That really sucks. Im kind of tired of these types of stores looking to sell me extended warrantys or trying to explain PCI-Express video cards are different to install etc. Honestly the things that go on in stores now are kinda shady, its a sad thing to see. Im glad youre happy with it though I just got an Enermax Whisper 2.0 ps (485W) and I really like it. Power Supplies are a key part to a system, more imporantly if overclocking theyre the backbone of it. Alot of people try to overclock with weaker power supplies and complain of not being able to hit good results when this is a quite important feature. Enjoy the 9800XT when you get it theyre awesome cards.

i was running my computer with an antec 350 watt for a long time with no problems... 3 hard drives, 2 optical drives, 9800 pro, never had a problem ^^

I got an ultra psu anyways. I didnt like having the mess of cables twisy tied to the inside of the case all the time. my voltages read about the same as yours, lol ^^
