Remarked VGA Card
around april '04 i bought a computer for my office. the computer was equipped with GeForce 2 MX 400 64 MB. i was using driver which was included in the vga card box. Everything went fine until i tried to upgrade the vga driver which was downloaded @ nvidia. And i notice in the display preference in Adapter tab the Chip Type, the manufacturer was S3 Savage 3D 2000.
so i downloaded the Wins3id.exe to detemine if my vga was S3 or not. after test it, it's true that my vga card is S3 Savage 3D 2000. FYI: the display card can't be detected by official driver. it must be installed using driver which is included in the box. after complaining to the computer vendor, he denied the fact that the vga card was a remarked one. so guys, i need your suggestion to provide more technical details about my remarked vga card. and i have several questions in my mind: 1. is there a chance to identify the chip by looking at the physical appearance ? 2. is there any nvidia utilities which works the same as WinS3id.exe ? |

I know that ATI cards have their cores labeled. Try taking off the heatsink and seeing what the core says.

taking off the heatsink will void my warranty.. so that solution is not viable.

the display in the hardware properties is just the same as if it is an original nvidia vga card. sorry, the card is still being held by the vendor.

If there was a FCC ID on the card, that may lookup to a card type as well as a maker.
Does it have an onboard graphics as well as a card, that could confuse things. |

The only way it would do that is it you phoned your supplier and said "Escuse me, I'm removing the heatsink now, please make sure the warrenty is void on my card".
