Video has artifacts!?!
Here's my problem. I usually watch Avi/mpg files/DVD movies on my computer and recently I've noticed artifacts appearing in the picture and the audio cracking randomly. I tried reinstalling my nforce2 chipset drivers, I tried changing video drivers, and I even took my 9600xt out and used the integrated video which is an Nvidia Geforce4 MX. None of these possible solutions worked obviously so I'm at a loss. I play tons of games on my setup and there is absolutely no artifacts or audio cracking. This only happens when playing video files of any kind. Any suggestions?

Well, it's basically whenever ANY video file is running. Windows media player at times, powerdvd 6, and even during video intros within games. I just deleted all the spyware I had and I have no viruses...

I've had this problem too for some time now on my laptop and there has been no definitive fix for this type problem for awhile now. I've eliminated the driver as the source of the problem though, tried the Omega's all the way back to the Cat 3.6 version, as well as Dell's own latest driver specific to the laptop (using DriverCleaner, etc. too) - still messed up. Looks like something in Windows, the Windows updates over time (not moved to SP2 yet there - can't on that one yet), or applet upgrades, so I'm gonna use the "brute force" method and reinstall Windows, DX, and drivers from scratch.
I should be done backing up and installing middle of next week - I'll post here and let ya know...

Will do, but will post here too to bump the thread and let others know. Maybe I'll have some more insight then...
At the last try, a DVD movie would get to the end of the formation of the menu screen then crash XP to a blue screen with a memory dump - really nasty, and large AVI files would randomly jump forward and skip large portions in the process.
I really need to re-install Windows on the laptop anyway to come into compliance with the build (with Novell, Office, etc.) at work. They let me go my own way with my systems there, but I need to see what the rest of the folks there see (OS wise) and I know the build they have constructed is pretty stable - but I intend to use Omegadrives driverset (of some version) for the video driver.
And thanks for the encouragement pr0digal!
