getting stuck whilst posting

the cd writer in my dads computer has just stopped working and burning blanks so i changed with another i had. after switching them about i booted into the BIOS to check everything was recognised and there were the 2 hard drives cd drive and cd writer all how it should be. saved and exited and then whilst it was posting it recognised primary master and primary slave and then just hung like that and went no further.

i then unplugged everything and puut it back together and the same thing happens. i tried booting it with just the main hard drive plugged in and the it just hangs after it detects the primary master. im not too sure what to do now - mobo problem maybe? thanks for any help in advance id greatly appreciate it.

are any of the drives set to "cable select" or have you manually selected the master/slaves on each drive?

also check the IDE leads are in correct and if you have spare leads swap them over. these kinds of problems are quite commonplace.
