More mem and new cpu or...?

or wait because I'm planning on buying a new pc within a year. And spend the extra money on that. I was thinking about buying an extra 512MB pc2700 kingston hyperX cas2,2,2,5,T1 and a xp3000+ for about €230. I still want to use this pc for network gaming after I buy the new pc. I don't want to buy corsair because they changed their latencies to 2,3,3,6 for the pc2700 XMS 512MD modules.

Save it, that PC should be able to run any game that's coming out within a year or so. I don't see any games using that much pc power, but who knows.

but if you do upgrade get pc3200 ram as its not that much more and can overclock higher

But my other ram is pc2700 and I don't want to change that too. So pc3200 and pc2700 together is useless, overclocking wise. But you all wouldn't recommend upgrading to 1GB of ram and a xp3000+?

Not if you're buying another PC within a year.

Hmm hard choice there. I would have to say no to the processor. Right now you're running a 2400 /w a 266FSB which is fast enough. However, if you purchase more PC2700 the processor you'll be eventually getting will at least support PC3200 or DDRII for that matter. Are you planning on building an entirely new computer in a year or just upgrade? I think that is the question that begs to be asked.

I'm planning on building a whole new PC. But I want to be able to use this PC for network gaming, because the other PC's in the network are to slow.

Hmm well you're not going to notice too much difference between the 2400 vs the 3000. However, more ram definitely would be noticeable. You would have to upgrade to a processor /w a 400MHz FSB to really notice the improvement though than besides just more ram.

More ram will decrease laggyness, increased loading times of aplications. The ability to have a few extra aplications open example: A game, 2 internet explorere and msn messanger and just sitting there with no problem. Everything with more ram seems to run extremely smoother. Its sad to see your pc2700 (166 ) is at 133

. processory fsb kinda bites, when upgraded to 400 you can notice a huge difference.

Well, I've got my cpu running at 169x12,5@1,65V
And my mem at 169Mhz Cas 2,2,2,5.
This was the highest I could clock it. If I tried to put it at 13x it would run at 5x instead of 13x. Might have to do with the stock voltage. But I don't want to increase it because my cpu already runs at 47degreed Celsius on 100% load. Would it be better to get more ram from corsair XMS eventhough that is timed 166@2,3,3,6 or get kingston hyperX 166@2,2,2,5 .

The general rule is "You get what you already have". I would go with the Corsair.

Could there be compatibility problems when I use corsair with kingston? Why should you get waht you already have, eventhough it are different mem chips, working on different cas latencies.
