Pissed CPU Temp randomly shoots up.

As of lately I've been having a very odd problem with my cpu. Normally at full load gaming, such as Doom3, I've gotten 45 or 46c as my hottest temperature and I'm quite happy with this. Within the past week though, I've been having this problem, my cpu temp all of a sudden jumps up to 60 or 65c whether I'm playing a game or in windows idling @ 34c, very odd indeed. At first I was thinking maybe I somehow messed up contact between my SLK-900a and my cpu, but then I realized that if it happened then my temps would always by higher. Now I'm thinking possibly a broken temp sensor, either way I was wondering if any of you guys could help me with 1. what's causing this? and 2. how to fix it?. Thanks for your help and if you find a solution I shall be forever grateful as it's very annoying when you can play Doom3 or FarCry for an hour and get 45c then later on while doing something like chatting, music listening, my cpu temp skyrockets to 60c.

If there is nothing running that significantly loads the CPU (check in task manager) then there is likely a problem with the temperature reporting, software or hardware.

how warm is the air coming out of your case and how warm is the hs right when ur done gaming? That would show if it were temp error, if the hs is cool to the touch... ummm, check and make sure ur fans are working

Mythical I don't have water cooling, my sig says after upgrades, then lsit the parts. I think mkk must be right, as I've check all my fans, check air temp, and the heatsinks temp itself. Nothing is indicating really hot temps except the sensors.

That's the odd thing I haven't even opened the case in a quite awhile, haven't added new things or possibly disturbed the heatsink.

Heh, the way you said that made me chuckle, sounded as if water cooling was something everyone without it should consider.
