Are you using a wireless mouse?

I had that problem using a wireless just because of the signal delay.

I switched back to a wired USB mouse and it worked great.

Sounds like a problem i had awhile ago where my mouse and keyboard has some input problems like if i hit the fire or jump key they would repeat and other times would not work untill i hit it repetedly. I fixed it with a reinstall of directx.

The intelitype and the MS optical mouse drivers suck.

The mouse drivers don't let you tweak the sensitivity of the mouse at ALL. Pieces of trash those drivers are, and under windows XP if you install the older drivers, no matter what you do, windows XP forces you to use the "updated" drivers that come stock w/ winxp. It pissed me off to no end so I have a wireless intelimouse explorer sitting in a box collecting dust and I just use my $3 E-bay logitech optical cheap old mr. reliable mouse.
