read this if you have shimmering on your TFT

Hey guys, I've got an AOC LM720A and since the day I have owned it, and after 3 replacements it has had a shimmer at high resolutions with high refresh rates. I fixed it today using powerstrip. If you have this probelm read on

Get powerstrip from: http://www.entechtaiwan.net/ps.htm

Install etc etc. Then when you've restarted got to display profiles by right clicking on the powerstrip icon in your system tray. Then go to ADvanced timings options. I knocked my vertical refresh rate down one notch using the little down arrow. Its now at about 74.9Hz so i lost 0.1Hz!! (shame huh?!)

Shimmer be gone

Any questions just ask... hope this helps someone

You can refresh at 60Hz with a LCD and it won't make a jot of difference - they are always flicker free.

My LCD produces a more pleasant image in True Colour (24/32 bit) than Hicolour (16 bit).
HiColour is limited to 32 levels of RGB, and it seems the dithering can upset some analog LCDs

I don't think you can, it just does it (and assumes that with 32 steps, it should be harmless).
You CAN turn it off for Internet Explorer - not quite sure if that setting (Smart image dithering) means exactly the same thing though.

You can probably reduce it with colour choice, and by disabling title bar shading by setting colour 2 = colour 1 in the properties (and I must try that for screenshots, as it would not waste as many colours in GIF compression).

I keep mine in Truecolur, as it just looks better, and I do have a digital camera and do photo editing, so truecolour isn't completely wasted.
