Need some advice
So I'm looking to build a second system, which will run as a game server for things like Ut2k4, etc. I'll run dedicated servers on it most of the time but it'll be used by my wife and son for their web surfing email, blue's clues games etc as well. I'm wondering if I should go for a P4 2.8C and overclock the sucker, to replace my AXP @ 2.3 or just grab like a barton 2500 and a cheap Mobo. Either way I'll probably put this RAM in there and grab some 3500 stuff. The system will be used for real gaming only once in a while if someone's over or whatnot. So what do you guys think? I'll be grabbing a nv40 or R420 when they come around most likely and my 9800 NP will go in the secondary rig. Oh yeah gonna run Win server 2003 on it probably. I want to run an RIS on it and learn some more about networking since I'm pretty weak as far as that goes. What say you all?
EDIT: Mods, if this should be elsewhere feel free I was unsure where to put it.

Of those 2 choices I would probably just buy a new Board and CPU for my main rig and pass on the parts to the server, but I don't suggest Overclocking it, its always nice to have a computer that can be up 24/7 and never have a problem
EDIT: I might wait until sept where they get the new Athlon 64 939 sockets come out with PCI Express and upgrade to that and pass the stuff along, or just go the cheapest route I can, a cheap AXP mobo and CPU and some cheap RAM |

a 1.6ghz 266 bus duron shoud suffice (not to mention people are hitting 2.3 to 2.4 ghz @ like 220 buss) so thier's pure o/cong potential there (look for brown cpu cores if you wanna try to reenable the cache to turn the duron into an xp) video wise I'd look for a 9700 pro i've seen them for like $200 shipped it is tax time i'd give them what you got, and go amd 64 but hey that just me

hell even a 950 duron and 512mb of ram with a decent hardrive is good enough.. doesn't have to have fast ram for even UT2K4.... i was running Quake 3... COD/UT2003/UT2004demo and halo plus as a file/print server all at once..... man.. that things was riding 49% CPU usage average..... of course loading levels would jump it up a notch... but never had a problem (just lately had a problem due to some upgrades that windows XP isn't getting used to ... i gotta reformat and reinstall).....All you need is Stable.... not speed... your not providing 1000's of computers all at the same time or anything.. that's when you start requiring the power/speed/ and lots of ram... (btw.. you won't see much of a difference really depending on what your doing... considering my sister uses the computer for MSN e-mail and browsing and downloading some things and playing spider solitare or similare)

So like a Barton 2500+ should be sufficient then aye? I'd as soon not have to upgrade it for a while then, it'd be a build it and forget the hardware sort of thing. I've got a Radeon 7000 I can throw in until I buy my nv40/r420. Yeah I'm wondering about going for the AMD64 3200+ also. But it's 754 pin and, ahh who am I kidding I've never had a problem buying a new motherboard before.

See the Problem with getting one of those Socket 754 is that they are going to be phased out in favor for the 939, along with the socket 940 (Athlon 64 FX), I am waiting until I can buy a 939 socket board that has PCI Express built in so I don't have to worry about it for a while, but that is still months off

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...log=280&depa=0 What does everyone think of this board? I'm seeing good reviews but I know very little about the Intel scene.
