Is it just me...Mozilla

I've been a regular user of Mozilla since version 1.0 came out. However, if I use IE it just seems so freaking slow! Do any of you fellow Mozilla users out there agree with this?

yes, i agree. When I used to have my old pentium 133, I used to think that it was because my PC was slow, but now I know better. IE... i don't know what's wrong with it exactly, but it just can't update its freakin status bar properly. ALL THE TIME, it just says "opening page" and then when i look to the top right corner, the windows flag is not waving.... its very annoying. I can't tell whether its loading or not. It makes it feel as if it is loading very very slowly. (very annoying). On top of this, I have noticed that IE doesn't display the page until EVERYTHING is loaded, so that annoys me even more. I eventually began to think that maybe IE just can't make proper use of bandwidth, so I did some tests. IE and Mozilla took an equal amount of time to FULLY load a page, but Mozilla showed the page as it loaded, but IE waited till the entire page was done (and it also didn't properly update the status bar)......

... IE, by not properly updating the status bar and making the little icon on the topright part of the screen wave, and by also not showing the page as it loads, tricks the mind into thinking that the browser is very sluggish even though it is still downloading at the same speed as any other browser. So basically: IE is gay. It does everything it is supposed to, but it makes it a tedious experience for the user. Use Mozilla and Opera.

it's about the same speed.. but IE keeps crashing on me. BTW the latest NIGHTLY build of mozilla (i hope the future one too) has very fast start up, unlike previously, now i don't have to use: keep mozilla at memory for faster startup. AND they have nicer icons unlike the last major release (1.1beta)

Oh good lord. Keeping mozilla in memory at startup is not that much more usefull. It's still slow (ok faster than before, but still... ). I'd suggest you use Opera 6.0+. Now at least this browser loads faster than NC / Mozilla and doesn't make most pages unreadable. Mozilla is still to young to be usefull.

So,

Mozilla = old and busted

Opera = hot and newness

(at least is Mozilla is not part of the M$ empire)

IMO, Mozilla is a better browser than Opera. I have Opera, and its great. I like it very much, but the only reason its not my primary browser is that it CAN'T DISPLAY EVERY PAGE PROPERLY. It gets very annoying to see wrong alignments and messed up javascript

Opera is very useful for quick websurfing etc because its so fast

. It is also the most flexible browser I know.

i agree with dallastar. I tried opera 6.04 the last time. It doesn't load very fast when i use check for newer documents everytime. AND, it crashes on me too.

Mozilla rules.

Question about Mozilla then, do you have any way to make it run faster when you start up a webpage? I don't know if it's my internet connection (cable from Videotron), but it always seems slower even when I had it running in memory at startup. I'd really like to have it running as fast as you guys are.

Mozilla is really slow. I was using K-Meleon for a while, but it doesn't get updated too much.

Mozilla takes about 5 seconds to start up, but once it has started up, its actually a very fast browser(rivalling Opera

Mozilla can be a real memory hog at times - easy to see under 2K or XP.
IE hogs the memory just as much - its just much harder to work out.

Takes about 2 secs to open on my PII-350 at work with 512 meg

It always takes me at least two to three times as long to load a page than IE on my cable modem. I don't understand why, maybe I'll try out the new version one day and change my opinion.

Tried Mozilla 1.0. Wouldn't install.
Tried the alpha. Wouldn't install.

Support? Decent FAQ? No.

Speed difference?

IE: Loads pages.
Mozilla: Won't install.

Winner in my book is IE.

Installed Mozilla without a problem on a totally virgin install of XP on another box. Timed page loads versus IE. Pretty much no difference.

Mozilla is just netscape only uglier anyway. If I were going to choose a browser for raw speed, it'd be Opera. But frankly, I don't have page load time issues with IE, and it's already on the drive, no sense in wasting the space.

Netscape 7 is based on mozilla

You can choose modern skin in mozilla which looks really good.

I pretty much agree with the last sentence.. If you have no problems with IE, just use it. I would have used it if it doesn't crash. Some damn webpages only works on IE..

ie never crashes on me... its just im to damn lazy to configure a popup killer and mozilla has a built-in one(ive seen 3 popups in 5 months on mozilla)that needs no configuring(well turning on)

i still gotta use ie for some sites cause mozilla doesnt like em...

It makes IE works like mozilla with TABS and noooooo popups!
But it's based on ie, so it crashes on me.. but it will work great for u.

used to use this with win98se...

uncheck "open unrequrested windows"

its a hidden setting barely anyone knows about

Ram is not a problem. Got 512 Megs (CAS-2 133MHz) and my cpu is 1.0GHz. I'm running under Linux now (Mandrake 9.0 Beta 1) and it just seems slower, not very slow, but enough to make me slightly cranky. Anyway, i'll stick with Opera until Mozilla 1.1 official or 1.2 beta.

Thats probably a good idea - the Mozilla 1.1 beta is a fair bit faster than the 1.0 - especially with JavaScript
