I'd say Xvid, I've come to trust it more than Divx. Download a program called virtualdub and make sure you install the Xvid codec, open the video file, go the video tab make sure full processing mode is selected on, you should be able to leave the audio alone, but if you don't then you can do the same thing except on the audio tab.
When you have full processing mode checked, go back to the video tab and go to compression, go to compression, select xvid (or divx if you'd rather stick with it) and configure it to select your bitrate. After that's done go to the file tab then save avi and let it go! Wheeee!
