MBR could be really messed up.... if it's FAT32.... try fdisk with extension /MBR this will clear and reset it....has worked for me....but sometimes something like that is a hardrive failure.... or total incapability (possible a computer thinking it's a specifc drive... and finding out it's not and complaining about it)..... Some computer have the bios's HD settings set to USER specifying specifc block/cluster whatnot.... if this is true... then the computer will not even reread it... no attempt at auto detecting... check bios...if all else fail....try a CMOS reset...

PangingJr has a spectacular aura aboutPangingJr has a spectacular aura aboutPangingJr has a spectacular aura about

the MFT is created by NT OS when formatting a part. using NTFS filesystem, the MFT is in the NTFS part only.

the MBR is on the HDD(not on a part.), it's there once you've an OS installed (regardless of the OS's filesystem), the MBR is normally instated on the HDD during OS installation, in this case Ghost creates it. you may have to delete the part. on the HDD and then re-Ghost the boot part.. also pls check to make sure that the computer's CMOS settings for the HDD is set for using "LBA" or "Autoselect" and NOT for "Normal(CHS)" or "Translated".

Check the [new] HDD's manufacturer site and grab their HDD utility, typically a small program that will create a boot diskette with the necessary utils on it. "Disk Read Error" could be related to a HDD error (like Raw Read Error or ECC Error), in which case RMA.

I have recently purchased a WD 80/8 SE and am still waiting for the replacement... Raw Read in my case.

I think this is being RMA'd as I set up the drive using Max Blast then tried to format the drive with WinXP setup just was gonna go with a clean install. The Format ran for oh an hour, the partition was only 3.5Gb and it was only 15% done! Also the powermax utility doesn't work with the nforce chipset! Bastards at least thats what I'm reading. Anyone tried it? This is what it says on the website anyways ...
Note: PowerMax v4.06 will not detect Ultra ATA hard disks connected to motherboards with embedded NVIDIA chipsets (SATA drives are supported). A new version to address this issue is currently in development and is slated for release soon.

You could try it on another computer, with a supported chipset - at work? Anyway, it sounds a lot like what my HDD was doing: slow on some areas in the begining, then Disk Read Error...
