Ever had one of those days?

You get an old HDD working again, recover alot of what you thoughtwas long lost, but when you are deleting folders, one folder won't delete, preventing formatting of the drive? I had one of those days. I'm close to FDisking this monster Western Digital 20 gig drive.

You can try FDisk.. I have found that at times FDisk just does not seem to get rid of the problem. KillDisk does a lowlevel format of the drive and cleans it up really good. If you buy the one version of KillDisk you can do up to 99 passes on the drive.....(NOTE: 99 passes is not needed and will take you several days). I usually use 1-3 passes depending on the drive... The free version of KillDisk only lets you use 1 pass. You can try to use FDisk and it may fix your problem. I just personally prefer FDisk.

For Western Digital, the maker's utility should be able to do FULL testing (data destructive) AND mask a few additional bad sectors.

Data Lifeguard toiols including DataLifeguard diagnostic

If you are going to have any faith in that drive, you need to give it a thorough test - though that CAN turn over a bad drive ... ensure it has acceptable cooling while testing, as it is going to be run hard.

I don't mean fans blasting on it, but just not over-obstructed.

Well guys, a simple utility called Partition Magic fixed up this beast, and now I'm using the 8mb it wouldn't use before on the drive also! The drive works great now.
