8500 vs. ti4200
Got a question. How much better is a Geforce 4 Ti4200 than an ATI Radeon 8500? I'm thinking about putting the 8500 in this rig and running some games/benchmarks with newer drivers to see what the gain would be, but I'm extyremely lazy.

Benchmarks the 8500 might actually beat the GF4, but the GF4 will blow it away in gaming every time.
I had both, I tried too but quickly switched back every time. (I tried more than once, I kept thinking "mebbe if I try THIS it'll help".....I ain't a fan of the 8500. )

Results
Some results are as follows:
........................... ATI Radeon 8500 64 MB.....................Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti4200 128 MB
3DMark01SE................9750 3dMarks........................................... 10610 3dMarks
SoF2..........................52 FPS Average..........................................6 0 FPS Average
UT2k3.....................No Video Card Error.....................................No Video Card Error
CS v1.6...............100 constant (30-40 in smoke)................100 Constant (20-25 in smoke)
All tests were taken On the rig in my sig. I was using Catalyst 3.6 and Detonator 45.20's. Go figure eh? What do you guys think of these results? Are they up to par/average? I think I may just throw the 8500 in my rig for now until I can get 400 dollars.
[EDIT]: Anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing that ut2k3 error?

Go into "properties" in UT2k3 set-up and have it re-detect your video card.

Actually, I am a fan of the Retail, BB ATi 128 MB 8500. I would only upgrade at this point if I could get my hands on a nice deal with a 9700 Pro. But, I've been very happy with this one for the past nearly a year.
Do you know which BIOS that 8500 has?

I've got no idea. The one that came with the Built by ATi's about 3 months before the Geforce 4's came out.
BTW Dig, I can't even load up the game, it's like I have two problems. It won't initialize the engine because it can't find the card.

Just reinstalled UT2k3, and I'm getting 5-10 FPS average higher with the 8500! This is quite an interesting revelation and it is a testiment to ATi's drivers that it's able to do so well. Running on pre-catalyst drivers the 8500 could run it, but at 800 by 600 , not at 1152 x 864 like it is now! I'm completely blown away and I'm going to continue to run the 8500 until I get a new card.

I'm presently running the CAT 3.4 drivers. (Only because of a problem rebooting with Video-OUT connected.)
Anyway, with these drivers I can go to the Display Properties, Settings, Advanced and then click the Options tab. There's a Details button there. Click on that and there will be a detailed list of things about your ATi video card....including the BIOS number. Mine's 7006.

Since I posted last I discovered something. FSAA and Anisotropic filtering with the 8500 is shit. It lowered frames very very heavily and since I enjoy playing without jaggies, I'm going to revert back to my ge4. Why did you need the bios version, if you like, I can reinstall the card over the next day or so to tell you

Rage3D posted a review comparing the 8500's performance under various BIOS versions.
You can read that here:
http://www.rage3d.com/articles/8500bios/
The reason I asked about your BIOS is that the performance of your 8500 may be affected by whatever BIOS it has installed.
