Rdram

I currently have 512 RDRAM..two chips of 256..I'm going to upgrade to 1GB..should this help out my games a lot? And or my Frame Rate? Remember, it's TOP of the line Ram..RDRAM PEOPLE! Heh, well..that's how the guy at Circut City said it to me..anyways...help?

Well, in this case, I need to know which RDRAM I need..I'm running on a Dell Demension 8250..

But the FPS SHOULD increase, right?

RDram is the 2nd slowest of the current styles of ram. DDR is the fastest, and regular SD is the slowest. RD costs a fortune too because of how difficult it is to make. You can get 512M of very high quality DDR ram for like 125$ while for RD ram it would be like 250$. It wouldn't provied that much of a performance increase compared to hom much it costs. You money would be better spent else where.

No, no..RDRAM is more powerful..Here But anyways, what should it go towards if I want more FPS?

My own comment wasn't based on the fact that it's RDRAM, but the fact that more memory probably wouldn't help your system performance too much overall . . . .
If you want your games to play faster, the 1st thing to consider is a faster video card, then a faster CPU.
Increasing 512MB to 1024MB will have minimal effect.

HEh, I have a Radeon 9700 Pro..

Is there any way I can add onto my CPU? I hear I can upgrade it..meh..I'm sorry that I'm not too fluent with this stuff, I'm new..BUT I'M A QUICK LEARNER! Just two days ago I heard of this thing called "overclocking" now since yesterday, I know what to do, what to install, how to do it..ect..so just tell me if I can upgrade it. I'm on an Intel Pentium Processor 4..2.40 Ghz..I'm so into Raven Shield, that I'm willing to upgrade my pc so it will run better on it (Raven Shield has some bug with the FPS, I can only get 70-80 FPS then it drops in certain areas.)

If you are already using RDRAM, I'd say go ahead and increase it. It may not increase your FPS but it would make your system load programs faster. As for RDRAM being the best it no longer is. Dual channel DDR400 motherboards have at least twice the performance of RDRAM.

RDram only works at 16bit. All other ram works at 64bit. (1066*16/8)=2132MBs=the fastest DDR. (433*64/8)=3464=average high speed DDR ram, many types can get much faster.

If you have a motherboard that will support a faster pentium 4 then you can replace it with a faster chip.

until the advent of the the 865 & 875 the over 2yrs old 850 rdram chipset has been the fastest setup out there. rdram is technologically superior to ddr, faster in the 'real world', & has absolutley no compatibility/stability problems. that said i am upgrading to 865 & the nightmare that is ddr. as far as upgrading to 1gig, spend your money elswhere. the best way to improve fps is 1st - video card 2nd cpu. i would look into a 9800 pro before spending a couple of hundred bucks + on a new cpu. i can not say this as a fact, but i really doubt a 2.4northwood is your limiting factor. you could look to your drivers vers and settings. there are plenty of ati experts on this board.

It's the game that's giving me low fps, it's a beta engine and has bugs..(Raven Shield) but all in all, I wanted to get smooth FPS throught everything. I have a Radeon 9700 Pro anyways.

first of all, 1 gig of RAM doesnt relly make any difference in GAMES, i've tried that, and got the same fps in games, the same quality, the same speed, not in current games anyway, and 512 is already more than enough for today's games...........so, basicly its a waste of money........by the way, what craig said 'bout RD and DDR rams are very true.........~LOL
