generic soundblaster compatible
soundblaster pro
or if your lucky soundblaster awe 32
most sound cards support the generic standard but to be honest, you will not get anywhere near the same quality in DOS as you would from 9x or other window based games, i could of spent a tenner (£10) and have a card that sounds the same!
you will need to make a note of the IRQ settings DMA settings and........another one but ive forgotten it...damn its been a while! you can check a few things in windows (device manager) what OS are you using? the drivers for windows should have legacy driver support installed as well, what game are you trying to get to work? have you been able to run the game from within windows (you will need to mess about with memory settings)
