Re: graphics driver deleted

Hit F8 as soon as it leaves the BIOS screen and get into safe mode...... re-install your drivers from there.

Re: graphics driver deleted

Something sounds funky. If you truly deleted your driver the proper way you should still be able see Windows but in a lower resolution after you restart. That is how it has always been for me at least.

I would boot into safe mode, run Driver Cleaner, boot into normal mode, install your drivers and reboot again. That should do it.

This is the way I have been updating my drivers from day one and I have yet to have a single problem.

Re: graphics driver deleted

It could be if you are using a card for your main video, because you removed the drivers, windows switched over to motherboard video....... If you can't get a screen in safe mode from the card, try the mobo video jack (If applicable)

Re: graphics driver deleted

Dude try shifting ur graphics adapter from Discrete graphic card to Onboard integreted graphic chipset,

mostly there must be a display port on ur motherboard, try shifting to it.

I have a good feeling that u removed ur drivers forcefully. u shouldn't have done it,

And yes also look into your motherboards bios options, Change options from onboard to Discrete graphic card and vice versa.

that would help, One more thing , even if u uninstall drivers, Windows have basic drivers to support 4 bit to 32bit display basically, so when drivers get uninstall, windows automatically recognizes a new hardware and install basic drivers.

bye .

he means plug your monitor into the video output on your motherboard.
not the video output on your graphics card

you deleted the video drivers for the gfx card, so now your computer assumes that you're using the onboard video

Well I left that open by saying "if applicable" but if one doesn't exist on the motherboard he should get video from the add in card in safe mode...... Also if windows boots normally (minus video on the monitor) it's finding a video processor somewhere....... OP said he heard windows opening sound.

@ Optix, this is precisely why we're saying it must be some some of IGP (or another video card) If it can't find video, simply put the system won't boot.

Unless somehow the video card was damaged severely, but most of the time the act of deleting software will not in anyway impede the hardware, just simply alter it's function.

We haven't heard back from the OP, so I guess we're waiting....

Re: graphics driver deleted

I'm not trying to stir the pot but rather posting a what if situation. I'm right along side with all of you thinking it switched things over to the IGP, especially since the OP can get past the POST but doesn't get video in safe mode.

It was for my own curiosity since I haven't heard reports of a partially functioning card like this.

There is someone with a similar problem to you. It looks like they fixed the problem by reformatting.

I'd say that is a last resort though.

Okay.... your motherboard has no graphics, so that idea was a flop. Did you have video problems before you deleted the drivers?

Re: graphics driver deleted

well it seems the problem is with os not system, if u see , Cmos and post screen than ur card is pretty much working, it must be drivers. Format ur system or, run os setup without formattting, that can fix errors too. and if not, take ur hardrive to another computer with onboard graphics, and boot from there. install the drivers forcefully, without the hardware. When u boot next time it will recognize the hardware automatically and start display.

PS-I could be wrong in saying, But whats wrong in trying things. hehe.

Re: graphics driver deleted

Okay.... this previous problem was probably still a corrupt driver and not bad hardware. (I'm guessing, but from what I'm reading seems likely) When you try to boot into safe mode using F8 do you see the options screen, black screen with white text? There should be an option to force VGA mode, have you tried that?

Windows should do this itself in safe mode but it must be finding parts of the S3Savage drivers, just not the s3sav4.dll you deleted so it boots but can't display.... very odd.

I'd hate to have you just reinstall windows as you may lose your files but that is an option.... it would be nice if we can find a workaround so it's not necessary.

I always keep a copy of SLAX on my USB drive in case something goes wrong with the OS and I need to retrieve a few files. Normally anything I truly care about is on a separate storage drive but it's nice to have a fall back plan. Just boot from the flash drive (or you could burn it as an ISO), it'll load itself into the system memory and away you go. You can grab any files you need and transfer the location or put them on another USB drive.

Do you have access to a different video card you can swap out for a while? (from a friend, older card, something like that.)

Re: graphics driver deleted

I could have swore there was a Enable VGA mode that was suppose to get around issues like this in safe mode.

Otherwise as Tyronswood said, try another video card.

There are only 2 conclusions at this point, either the card itself somehow fried but is partially functioning (Unlikely as you're not experiencing "display issues, garbled text etc)

Or the Software has been so well deleted once it enters the "video load" portion of Windows it just goes blank"

Either way sir, you are good.
In all seriousness though try the Enable VGA mode, and then try a different card, also possibly if you enable VGA pallete snoop (if it's available) it may help with enabling vga mode... But that is in no way a guarantee since most cards don't even use that feature anymore, I just noticed you said a savage 4.

I think SLAX would help out here as well. If you can get that loaded and see everything you know it's not hardware related.

I thought you could force VGA mode when trying to enter safe mode?

If not it shows you how often I use safe mode.

There's actually a sub option, for VGA mode, and there's also a last known good, which also may work... The Snoop option is required by some older cards and at this point he doesn't have much to lose by trying it, I think he's going to have to end up formatting but those are some last ditch options.
