I dont agree with numba 2 or 8 being in the list!

Realplayer was OK up until version 8 when AOL joined realnetworks and totally destroyed the player!! (I have version 8 and love it)

It does not start on boot or try to take over anything.....

People complaining about RP are probably referring to the newer pieces of garbage which are overbloated, have ads,etc.... (Thats the AOL influence (Adding of the ads))

And IE6 is the BEST version of IE in my opinion, looks MUCH BETTER than version 7 or 8!! (They both look like crap and have lots of un-needed garbage in them)

Browsers are only as safe AS THE USER IS! (No need to have the browser being bogged down doing stuff you can do yourself!)

Re: 25 worst tech products of all time...

Man I sure hope you're being sarcastic.

Realplayer has always been bad. Way back in the day when it first came out and got popular, the player itself would take forever to load on my "mediocre" computer. It also took huge amounts of RAM too when 32MB was "enough". (Win95 days) It's only bearable now because of real alternative so i can use MPC to play RMVB files.

Reading that article sure reminded me of alot of companies I hated back in the day, such as Comet Cursors. Pointcast was decent though for personal use.

Erm... That thing was a total bust from usability point of view, it had no tabs, printing support was awful, download management was practically nonexistent, etc., and the only thing worse than that was it's technical side: page rendering that adhered to no standard known to man. Due to it's dominant position in the market, consequences of the latter can still be felt today. It was a horrible piece of software. Also, to each his own, but IE7 and IE8 look rather decently on Vista and Windows 7 (with Aero).

P.S. I agree that the browser can be no more secure than the user's behaviour is, but when you visit a legitimate page that got malicious code inserted into it, and this does happen more and more, there's little you can do yourself to prevent a vulnerability from being exploited no matter how safe a user you are, so you'll want your browser to be a little bit more secure.

Re: 25 worst tech products of all time...

I'd pretty much go with everything on that list, though ME should be at the top and IE6 shouldn't be on there.
Because Windows became so popular over the years and Internet Explorer was built-in, naturally it became the most-used browser on the Internet. Due to this, it was also the most targeted browser because any flaws that were exploited were done so on a large scale. It's the same principle as having a website that displays properly in Internet Explorer, but not necessarily in others.
So, as IE was targeted so much it took the most amount of pounding. Naturally, loads of security flaws were bound to be found because no programmer (or even programming team) is perfect and can secure every security hole possible.
IE6 would've been bombarded the most because it was available for Windows 2000 and carried on through the Internet boom, to the release of IE7 for XP, many years later. Still, users haven't stopped using IE6 if they haven't gone to XP yet or if they haven't updated. Even though Netscape Navigator had a peak of 96% of Internet users using it, it was easier in those days to send through a virus; exploiting browsers wasn't really at the top of the to-do list.

I agree, Win Me should be there not IE6.

I think Rambus should be there too.

And yeah, Realplayer was the worst media player to ever exist.
