Hi.. I was wondering, whats best the Phenom II X4 955 or the Core i5 I5-750.?

I know the Phenom is on 3.2 ghz and the i5 is 2.66 ghz but, the i5 i newer technology?

So whats best??

Head right over here. The review pits i750 and Phenom II x4 965, but 955 has less than 6% lower clock speed, so you can get a nice picture of what to expect. I'd say that the 955 would be a tad faster on the overall, but Intel platform currently offers better upgrade options, though that doesn't necessarily mean much, who knows what sockets are going to be relevant, let alone who'll have more appealing products, by the time you need to upgrade (and that's if you like to upgrade rather than just buy a new PC when you need to).

EDIT: I see that you have a Q9550, I don't think that it's worth upgrading to either of these CPUs. You'd get some extra speed, but not much, especially considering the fact that you'd spend a significant amount of money.

Im not gonna upgrade my com. i was just wondering so i can give the best advice to my friends. Because here in denmark they cost the same.

As it stands right now, there IS no 'best'.

There is a 'best' for your purposes however.

If you/they are going to be doing a lot of media encoding, image processing, etc. then you want to go with an Intel system, as they have an advantage over AMD in that area,

If gaming, especially at high resolutions/quality, is the primary application, then go with an AMD system as they perform just as well as Intel and cost less.

theres also the fact that Intel allows the use of both SLI and Crossfire so thats another plus

remember that the i5 is cheaper than the 965 Phenom II and about $10 more than the 955 Phenom II guys...

theres a definite difference between the two chips, if you're gaming, both will do incredibly well... they're the same

when task requires high memory bandwidth, Intel pulls ahead of them well...
intel chips are slightly more efficient than their AMD counterparts....

since the CPUs are only $10 apart, my vote goes for intel.... however you will need to factor in the total system cost......

AMD supports both DDR2 and DDR3 (spend about 50+ bucks for 4GB of DDR2, spend 70+ bucks on 4GB DDR3
Intel supports only DDR3 so its generally more expensive
the boards are about the same in cost and capability (Intel boards can use SLi on intel chipsets, AMD cant), depending on the manufacturer

P55 and 790 boards come in all flavors and prices

you can grab either for about $120 minimum
