I'm curious as to what the threshold is for the core voltage on the Core i7 chips. I have a 920 and at 3.791Ghz, I've seen my core voltage go up to 1.28 volts. Is this within spec or is it too high? Thanks in advance.

Re: Intel Core i7 voltage
Intel's processor spec finder -page lists the current crop of 920's as capable of up to 1.375V, but I wouldn't take it quite that far myself. You're probably wise to keep it below 1.30V, as it's an expensive chip after all.

Re: Intel Core i7 voltage
Well, as you can see in the screenshots above, the voltages don't stay at the 1.28 voltage. It's only when Turbo Tech kicks in that my voltages will fluctuate from 1.10v-1.32v

Re: Intel Core i7 voltage
I don't have an i7, (not even close.... lol) but I would think that is normal fluctuation you are seeing unless both screen shots are at idle........ Isn't the i7 supposed to "overclock/underclock" itself dependent on load?

Re: Intel Core i7 voltage
Nah, the screenshots are at the peak of the Turbo boost. As you can see below, the multiplier will drop pretty low at times, and then climb back up as needed.

Re: Intel Core i7 voltage
That's what I thought. If your highest reading was 1.32v you're probably fine.

Re: Intel Core i7 voltage
Vcore is always going to fluctuate, that's how it functions. It partly because Core i7's underclock/overclock themselves and lower their own voltage when underclocking... it is also a function of vdroop.
1.375v is the maximum Intel spec without voiding the CPU's warranty, and I would say even that is fine for any Core i7... I run mine a fair bit higher since I have it overclocked to 4.2GHz. |

Re: Intel Core i7 voltage
From my experience I don't see that voltage causing any problems for your CPU as long as you keep it cool everything is good
