lol, some freewares are really good, man. i have many of them, 100s of them, i think. most of it are small in size and it's an standalone EXE, both in form of the command line tools and a win32 programs. these can be stored anywhere, update it sometimes, and i use it sometimes or all the time on some programs.

Don't worry overly much about whether a specific KB article exists for your version of Windows.
Standard practice is to grab whatever's available and apply the principles.

Battleaxe, those comments would have been best kept to yourself man.

We only really want links in this thread. Thanks.

most of the Windows utilities in these pages are small,
but vey useful and working best in XP.

Sysinternals Freeware by Mark Russinovich & Bryce Cogswell - http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/utilities.shtml

About that Shutdown Machine app I posted earlier in this thread, it seems that the link to the download I posted at download.com actually results in the download of a corrupted Shutdown Machine more often than not. So I thought I'd just post this for all the memebers that would like to shut their machines down after a preset period of time, but don't know how to.

Click "Start" to bring the windows start menu up and then click on "Run". In the Run text box type the following

shutdown -s -f -t 00

Where 00 stands for the amount of time to shutdown in seconds, and can be set to anything from 00 (which will force the PC to shutdown immeadiately) to 99999 or whatever, just calculate how long you'd like it to take before it shuts down keeping in mind it's timed in seconds. Be sure to put a space between all parameters, or else it won't work, it'll just flash a DOS window quickly on and off.

Be advised that the shutdown -will- be forced so don't be too surprised if it interupts an important procedure (eg scandisking or defragmenting or burning or something) if you miscalculate the time and spoils what you wanted to happen. So preferably make sure you've done the exercise before so you can estimate well to avoid messing up your windows installation, giving your hard disk bad sectors, etc.

Edit:

Actually should have posted this here:

http://www.driverheaven.net/showthre...215#post589215

but anyway, since it applies even here, it's okay. Btw, you can also get a tone of nice freeware at the above stated link.

Edit: Or you can just download DH Shutdown
