Computer Problem.......
I've got a friend on another forum I frequent who is having a problem when he boots up. I've typed in his query below.
Ok, having an issue when I first start my computer. It starts and then sometimes gets to the 'Motherboard screen' and give the options DEL to enter 'setup' and Tab for BIOS results....and then nothing...it just stops there and will not go further. TAB and DEL buttons do not work. I then have to press the power button to switch it off and then restart the process....normally it then boots as it should. The boot order is CD-ROM and then HDD. I have tried altering it to HDD and then CR-ROM and still have the same issues. I have scanned the computer and appear to have no viruses and the sytem otherwise is running extremely well. His specs are.... Asus P5N-E SLI Motherboard Intel Core Duo E6850 @3.00ghz 4 Gb Ram 2 x Nvidia 8800GT Graphics cards. Creative Soundblaster Soundcard...the onboard card I have disabled. Am running Windows Vista Home premium 32bit. Have Windows Xp Pro installed (But don't use), Anybody got any ideas?

hhhmmm...2x8800's? Is his PSU good enough to handle that system?
It almost sounds like his HDD's aren't spinning up and/or being detected. He mentions "Motherboard Screen". Does that refer to the LOGO? If so, he can try disabling that option in the BIOS, and will see a lot more info as the system is booting. That may help give an indication of what the problem is.

Could this be a cold boot problem?

Have you asked him to put the computer to stock configuration and say him that he removes the boot up logo thing, since he can't see the BIOS messages they could be helpful to know what part the BIOS boot it hangs.

I have asked him that question, waiting for a reply back. Thanks for the suggestion.

i'm thinking it might have something to do with his hard drive/CD-ROM configuration.
but yes, knowing what that BIOS screen says will give us alot of info.
